Named after the eponymous townhouses that once defined the Kyoto cityscape, Machiya is an all day restaurant and bar serving simple home style cooking alongside unique patisserie inspired by great food halls of Japan.
Open for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner seven days a week, the kitchen serves traditional dishes such as tonkatsu, Japanese curry and teriyaki – all available as a teishoku set meal with homemade miso soup, pickles and premium steamed rice.
Our in house pastry team offer customers an authentic taste of Japanese patisserie, with a focus on premium Uji matcha and seasonal ingredients such as cherry blossom and Yuzu.
After weeks of mixing, shaking and testing, the waiting is finally over, and we’re delighted to announce that our bar, Downstairs At Machiya, has officially opened. Our cosy, intimate drinking den specialises in quirky and fun cocktails, with highlights including the Jigglypuff (Portobello Gin, Campari, lemon & vermouth foam) and the Smokey Negroni (Lagavulin 16, Johnnie Walker Black, Umeshu, Antica Formula and Campari). Throw in some unusual Japanese whiskies and sakes, and your post-work drinks are pretty much sorted.
Our bar also serves up a selection of Japan’s favourite bar snacks including a wagyu slider topped with a fried egg, lotus root chips with miso-mustard mayo, a pop-katsu skewer with katsu sauce and a bowl of fiery Machiya hot wings. The snacks will change regularly so make sure to check in on our social media channels for updated information.
